Nirmal Dhaliwal, shown with sons Sunny and Mahmeet, farms south of Oliver, B.C. He has worked on this farm since the 1990s and, a few years ago, took over the orchards from his parents. “I like working outdoors,” he says. “And you can have your kids with you.” He laughs and points out that they’re a bit young right now, but “they try and they’re learning.”
Nirmal keeps busy producing cherries, including late varieties like luscious Lapins and Staccato; plump peaches and juicy prune plums; and Royal Gala, Ambrosia, and Spartan apples.
